A system is a whole made up of interdependent parts.
The natural world is made up of systems (e.g., the body, ecology, the solar system). We humans have created a few of our own (e.g., work systems, public health, healthcare, justice, government, etc.).
We need to use systems thinking to shift systems toward sustainable health. Systems thinking helps us identify relationships and choose where we need to intervene. It helps us see into potential futures – those we want and those we want to avoid.
Systems thinking is a skill everyone can learn. I offer a short, on-demand systems thinking program (below) to help people get on the same page.
If you’re already leading a system change initiative, I hope you’ll consider joining my online membership group, Leading System Change.
Systems Thinking: On-Demand ($50)
In 30 minutes you can learn the foundations of systems thinking:
- basic language and concepts,
- levels of intervention,
- a simple and powerful tool to get started.
I’ll use “defund the police” as an example to talk through different levels of system reform and/or transformation.
